Knowledge Learning About Color-changing Lenses
Jul 14, 2021
Color-changing lenses, also known as "photosensitive lenses". Because the silver halide chemical substance is added to the lens, the originally transparent and colorless lens will become a colored lens for protection when exposed to strong light, so it is suitable for indoor or outdoor use.
The color changing lens is made of optical glass containing silver halide crystallites. According to the principle of the reversible reaction of light and color, it can quickly darken under the irradiation of sunlight and ultraviolet rays, completely absorb ultraviolet rays, and neutrally absorb visible light back to darkness, which can quickly restore colorless and transparent.
Since the added silver halide and copper oxide are integrated with the optical glass, the color-changing glasses can change color repeatedly, and long-term use can protect the eyes from strong light stimulation and correct vision.
Color-changing lenses are mainly used in outdoor, snowy and indoor workplaces with strong light sources to prevent eyes from being damaged by sunlight, ultraviolet rays and glare. In layman's terms, under strong light, the silver halide inside turns into black silver particles under the light.
When choosing color-changing glasses, the main considerations are the functional characteristics of the lenses, the use of glasses, personal color requirements, and so on. Photochromic lenses can also be made into a variety of colors, such as gray, brown and so on.
1. Gray lens: can absorb infrared and ultraviolet. The advantage of the color changing lens is that it will not change the original color of the scene because of the lens, and can effectively reduce the light intensity. Gray lenses can absorb any spectrum evenly, so the scenery will only become darker, but there will be no obvious chromatic aberration, showing a real sense of nature. It belongs to the neutral color system, suitable for everyone.
2. Pink lens: This is a very common color. It can absorb ultraviolet light. If used as glasses for correcting vision, women who wear them often can choose reddish lenses, because reddish lenses have better absorption of ultraviolet rays and can reduce the overall light intensity, so the wearer will feel better.
3. Light purple lenses: same as pink lenses, because of the darker color, they are more popular with women.
4. Brown lenses: can absorb ultraviolet rays, filter out a lot of blue light, improve visual contrast and clarity, so it is very popular with wearers. Especially in the case of severe air pollution or fog, the wearing effect is better. Generally, it can block the reflected light from smooth and bright surfaces, and the wearer can still see the subtle parts. It is an ideal choice for drivers. For middle-aged and elderly patients with vision above 600 degrees, priority can be given.
